New camera shutter conforms to European privacy standards
16th May 2008
A new camera shutter has been developed to ensure personal privacy for Smart Terminal users in hospitals

Redhill, UK, 10 June 2008 – JAOtech has introduced a new camera shutter to provide total privacy to patients using the Obie and Jima Smart Terminals by rendering the optional camera completely inoperative.

Cameras can be integrated into JAOtech’s bedside Smart Terminals for video calls between patients and relatives or friends, and to allow medical staff to monitor patients’ well-being. The new camera shutter slides completely over the lens to disable use and has been introduced to conform with current European privacy standards.

The fully integrated 2.0 mega pixel camera module uses the latest CMOS technology and is available on both the 17 inch Obie, and the 15 inch widescreen Jima Smart Terminals from JAOtech. Further features are also available including: smart and magnetic swipe card readers, remote control, telephony, TV tuner, bar code scanner, upgradeable memory, RFID scanner and mini PCI and storage.

Specifically designed to UL60601 standards, the Smart Terminals are ideal for hygienic hospital ward environments, and also feature a sealed construction which is suitable for deep cleaning with standard hospital detergents. JAOtech has a flexible design approach and the terminals are built to individual specifications and can be customised to suit various requirements, even colour. Various mounting options are also available to allow flexible installation in any environment.

New Terminals Drive Sales at JJB
6th May 2008
Redhill, UK, 6 May 2008 – JJB Sports has seen an uplift in sales on lines promoted on newly installed interactive Smart Terminals from JAOtech. Customers use touch screens to browse multimedia content on golf, footwear and other sports equipment on terminals placed adjacent to the lines that they are promoting.

Phil Heyworth at systems integrator Missing Link said, “When we received the specification from JJB we evaluated a whole host of different options before we selected JAOtech’s systems. The Obie 17” Smart TerminalsTM were chosen for their specification, adaptability and carefully thought-out design.” Importantly for JJB the JAOtech Smart Terminals™ have been designed for maximum flexibility, and can be customised to deliver bespoke and compelling interactive experiences.

Dan Hayes from JJB commented, “We wanted to provide our customers and shop floor staff with a system that would promote key product lines, supply them with relevant product information, be easily updated, aesthetically pleasing and fit in easily with our store furnishings. We started to realise benefits almost immediately with improved customer service levels and increased customer knowledge, which has ultimately led to an increase in sales for the featured products. The terminals have allowed us to achieve the goals we set at the start of this project.”

Obie interactive terminals are based around PC technology with a range of different processor options, can be run on Linux and Windows and are compatible with all major PC applications. The terminals incorporate a host of design features that make them suitable for use by the public in demanding, rugged retail environments, including a touchscreen menu system and simple networking throughout the store using cables or via wireless network connectivity.

The Smart TerminalsTM from JAOtech have now been fitted in approximately 250 stores nationwide. Most of these stores have two screens, one in the footwear department and one in the golf department.
