Barcode Scanner
1D line barcode scanners are a cost effective and efficient solution available on all Smart Terminals. They can be used for scanning medication to ensure correspondence with the correct patient – or to match up with medical records tags. External barcode scanners are also available which can be located within the ergonomics with the ability to communicate wirelessly.

Wireless Connectivity
Integrated mini-PCI slots enable high speed wireless connectivity with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and infrared options. These technologies can be used for wireless vital signs monitoring such as patient temperature, as well as for the utilization of a wireless keyboard. Ultrasound capability developed by Sonitor Technologies can be employed to automatically track equipment in real time.

Telephony
Patients can stay in contact with relatives and friends using the Smart Terminal phone, available in VoIP or standard analog format which connects to a PBX telecom structure. The on-screen dialler is easy to use and the call buzzer and flashing LED ringing indicator lights can be controlled independently.

Biometric Security
Finger print recognition technology is the most reliable method of securing access to sensitive information such as patient electronic medical records or hospital databases. The biometric reader is designed to fit ergonomically to the side of the terminal.

Camera
A 1.3 megapixel camera, integrated into the frame above the screen of the Smart Terminals, not only keeps patients visibly in touch with relatives when employed as a webcam, it can also be used for patient monitoring purposes from a nurse’s station. The camera can even be used by doctors to remotely diagnose or consult with a patient. The camera has an increased pixel fill factor enabling higher sensitivity in low light operation.

Card Readers
A modular magnetic stripe card reader and also a smart card reader can be integrated onto the Smart Terminals. They provide a solution for security access, such as doctors or nurses logging in, or as a pre-payment method – patients can purchase credits from the hospital for using the terminal such as phonecalls and films on demand. The magnetic stripe card reader is located on the right hand side of the terminal. The smart card reader is positioned at the bottom of the terminal and is front facing.

Remote Control
A hardwired remote control is available which can be used up to 1.8 metres away. The control is available with a variety of membrane switches and designs, as well as a Nursecall button.

Custom Buttons
The buttons recessed into the front of the Smart Terminal casing allows the user direct access to the basic functions of the terminal. These can be customized to the users’ requirements but are typically volume, channel and power switches. A single button on the front of the panel is also available.

TV Tuner
The TV tuner is a separate module that plugs into an internal Mini-PCI slot – easily accessible through the rear panels. The chipset covers all TV standards and will decode stereo signals.
