Enviromental Initiatives

Government, customers, manufacturers, and the general public are becoming increasingly interested in the environmental issues surrounding the production of electrical equipment. Particularly restricting the use of certain hazardous materials, including lead and mercury and promoting the proper collection, recycling, and recovery of electronic equipment at its end-of-life. Many countries are adopting or proposing legislation requiring proper recycling of electronic waste. Product donation, reuse and recycling reduce waste from landfills and can result in recovered materials being recycled into other products.

The cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) in JAOtech’s Smart Terminal™ liquid crystal displays (LCD) products contain very small amounts of mercury to provide energy-efficient illumination. Currently, there is no cost-effective alternative to mercury-containing lamps in electronics products. The amount of mercury in these lamps is very small and is usually measured in milligrams. JAOtech’s Smart Terminals™ may contain other waste materials that can be hazardous if not disposed of properly. All JAOtech products must be recycled or disposed of according to Local, State, or Federal Laws. For general information on electronic waste or to learn about how to safely dispose of or recycle a JAOtech product, check the resources below.
