Users can choose to integrate a 1D Line Scanner, which is cost-efficient and ideal for basic barcode scanning required in many applications. Additionally for other reading requirements users can utilise an external bar code scanner. The unit can be connected via a USB connector located within the arm wall box as a convenient mounting point. In use, the scan head will communicate wirelessly to a USB enabled receiver module also located in the wall box. The receiver module then connects to the terminal via a USB cable in the arm.

Integrated mini-PCI slots enable advanced, high-speed wireless connectivity, Bluetooth and WiFi options ensure that the Smart Terminals™ can integrate the latest wireless technology. Mini PCI slots are accessible through the rear access doors of the Obie® and Jima® terminals. Additionally an IR sensor is fitted to the front of the Smart Terminal™ for the JAOtech IR keyboard to interface with.

The JAOtech Smart Terminals™ utilise the latest VOIP technology and also have an option for a analog phone which will connect to a PBX telecom infrastructure. The handset is HAC compatible and can be integrated with an on screen dialer created in software. The JAOtech Smart Terminal™ has a standard telephone handset that connects to the telephone network via a RJ11 connector in the rear connector recess. The handset connects to a RJ11 connector fitted to the motherboard that is followed by a pre-amplifier and hum filter to minimise noise pickup and boosts the microphone signal level before being sent to the line interface.
 
The telephone cradle contains an on-hook opto-sensor to detect the lifting of the handset. The action of lifting the handset is to mute the speakers / headphones and bring up an on screen dialer which will initiate a dial tone in the earpiece. The on screen dialer is then operated using the touchscreen. The actions of the call buzzer and LED ring indicator lights can be controlled independently.

A Biometric reader can be integrated onto the Smart Terminal™ for finger print recognition. Anti tamperproof construction avoids damage to the system when installed remotely. The biometric reader has been approved for reliable fingerprint recognition and provides the maximum security for access to sensitive information. The reader is designed to fit ergonomically to the side of the Smart Terminals™ so that the users finger swipe can be made easily.

The JAOtech camera module includes a CMOS image sensor, an integrated second generation Image Signal Processor (ISP), and a low profile 3 element lens. It is all housed in an integrated module that fits to the top of the Smart Terminal™. The small form factor is achieved through the use of leading edge 4μm pixel technology employed in the CMOS image sensor. The camera has increased pixel fill factor enabling high sensitivity for improved low light operation. The use of advanced micro lens design improves the aperture roll off which provides uniform illumination across the image and also brighter corners.

Modular magnetic stripe card reader and smart card reader can be integrated to the JAOtech Smart Terminals™. These peripherals provide a solution for security access or as a pre-paid payment method. The magnetic swipe card reader module is an external device that can be mounted on the right hand side of the terminal. A front recess in the card guide aids the user to locate the card slot when in use. The reader offers three track bi-directional operations and connects to an internal serial port.

Smart Card Reader

A modular magnetic stripe card reader and smart card reader can be integrated to the JAOtech Smart Terminals™. These peripherals provide a solution for security access or as a pre-paid payment method. The smart card reader is a module that is integrated in the bottom part of the JAOtech Smart Terminal™. The orientation of the smart card reader is front facing and the card inserted into the bottom plastic of the JAOTECH Smart Terminal™. The smartcard insertion direction can also be indicated by a silkscreen ID positioned on the front facing plastics

The remote control device transfers control of the Smart Terminal™ up to 1.8 meters away. The remote control is a hardwired device to avoid the device being stolen and also to satisfy the necessity of fixed wire connectivity in the case of a Healthcare application where Nursecall is required. The remote control can be integrated with a variety of membrane switches and designs. The device also integrates additional audio outputs and LED warning indicators.

The front button switches connect to a GPIO port on the motherboard. The front buttons are recessed into the front of the Smart Terminal™ case and allow the user direct access to the basic functions of the terminal. Typical controls are +/- volume, Channel up/down, power on/off. When a membrane is not used a single push button is fitted for power on/off with LED indication.

The TV Tuner is a separate module that plugs into an internal Mini-PCI slot. The chipset covers all TV standards, will decode stereo audio signals and provides closed captioning.  A miniature coax cable provides a connection from the tuner module to a connector in the rear connector recess. The module also provides an audio video input to allow the connection of external devices such as DVD players and games stations. A separate Mini-Din connector in the rear connector recess provides access to this feature.
