Case Studies Details
The 979-bed the regional medical center of Annecy (Centre Hospitalier de la région d'Annecy - CHRA) is the largest hospital in the Haute-Savoie region in the French Alps. Every year, 2,400 healthcare personnel treat 70,000 patients, requiring 300,000 hospital bed-days, and handle more than 40,000 emergency cases. The Application
Over 600 JAOtech Smart Terminals form the bedside front end of a high performance information system offering converged voice, data and imaging at CHRA. It is believed to be the largest deployment of such terminals in France so far. CHRA is using JAOtech Smart Terminals to provide medical staff with secure access to clinical data at the patient's bedside, giving full access to the relevant records and data alongside the facility to prescribe treatments for delivery by the hospital's fully automated pharmacy. The same terminals provide patients with digital entertainment and communications including telephone, Internet access, IPTV, video on demand and radio, and also provide access to hospital management functions or accessing other information to help make their stay more comfortable.
The Deployment
The 600 JAOtech Obie 17" touch screen terminals supplied to the hospital are specifically designed for the hygienic and noise-free environment of a hospital ward. In addition to meeting the requirements of UL60601 in full, terminals can be readily deep cleaned using popular cleaning and sterilisation agents, offering a wipe down design, and sealed front and rear faces to IP65 and IP64 respectively as well as the benefit of anti-bacterial plastics based on Novaron®. Using state-of-the-art processors, and creative heat dissipation including the use of the support arm, means that none of the terminals require a fan for cooling. Features such as call alerts are implemented using LEDs - the only sound output from the terminal is via the attached headphones, optional telephone or mini loudspeakers.
What the hospital thought
Head of the hospital's Infectious Disease Ward, Dr Jacques Gaillard said, "This is a completely new environment for us - something very innovative that changes the way we work. We have instant access to the complete set of records and data relating to each patient, putting us in a position to make a full clinical assessment on the spot. Using the prescription system, we can immediately take that assessment forward and prescribe the most appropriate treatment from the range of options that we have available at the hospital. Our clinical assessment, together with any treatment provided, can then be recorded on the spot rather than leaving this as a task for later."
